Caring for our Monarchs Responsibly: Monarch Rearing Class
The beautiful and iconic monarch butterfly is known and admired throughout the world. However,monarch populations have declined by 90% since the late 1990s. Many people are rallying and helping by providing a safe place for wild monarchs to grow and be re-released into the wild. It is a joy for people of all ages to watch this miraculous progress!
But with it, comes a responsibility…
Do you want to provide a safe place for wild monarch caterpillars to grow and be re-released into the wild? This informative workshop by Robert Coffan of SOMA will include:
* milkweed sources
* handling caterpillars
* predators, parasites and disease * when to euthanize and how
* enclosure selection
* chrysalis issues
* cleaning vs. sterilizing * releasing adults
